It is with great pleasure that I announce the completion of The Drug Store Project 2021-Video Production!
This past year has been difficult for all, but it has been most tough on our kids. Studies around the nation are indicating that once routines are back in place we will as a nation see an uptick in youth using and abusing drugs and an increase need of mental health assistance for many. The drug prevention education strides many of us worked so hard to accomplish will have a setback but it's important that we don't give up; that we continue do all we can to help our youth understand the importance of making healthy and good decisions for their futures. This is important for our youth, our families, our communities, and our nation.
Our video production marks our 18th year of providing this program to our youth and it is now available at www.makeschoolssafe.com on The Drug Store Project page and below on this story. Please SHARE this information soon as it will only remain public until May 31, 2021. South Tahoe Middle School, George Whittell High School, and Zephyr Cove Elementary school are scheduled to present the video to their 6th and 7th grade students in the next couple of weeks. A pre-event survey has already been completed and a post-event survey will follow their review. Survey results are available for review on the website and will be used to guide our schools and to aide in grant writing. There is also a parent survey, and we ask parents to participate after their child sees the video. We know our youth need information; we know parents want to be a large part of what their children learn. There is much to learn on the internet, so do it together!
My deep appreciation goes out to our agencies and individuals who financially support this endeavor each and every year, to Tahoe Production House for their professionalism and creativity, to the agencies who allowed us into their locations to capture the authenticity and to their personnel who stepped up to create the scenes, and to the high school youth who have for years, supported these efforts. Without ALL of you, this would not have been possible. We’re already planning to return to an in-person event next year on March 29, 2022. If you’re an individual not connected with a partner agency, you can sign up to volunteer your day here. Our spaces are limited.
The partnership of our efforts makes a difference in the life of at least one child and to me, that's a win.
I am happy to receive feedback at lhuard@ymail.com and I can provide you with information on how to donate to our continued endeavors as well.
Thank you everyone!
