Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care to accept volunteer applications

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Volunteers are needed at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC), and for the first time in two years, they are accepting applications starting May 7.

LTWC’s animal care team and seasonal volunteers care for hundreds of wild birds and animals at their South Lake Tahoe facility. Animal care teams provide the much-needed medical care, sustenance, and enrichment - all skills to ensure their patients’ successful return to the wild.

2022 Volunteer Sign-up will open on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. PST via the LTWC website only. Space is very limited. In past years, all spots were filled the same day.

No experience is needed, just a willingness to help and care for orphaned and injured wildlife. Volunteers are trained in animal intake, food prep and feeding, safe handling protocols, and facility hygiene. Volunteers are expected to volunteer for at least one, four-hour shift each week during LTWC’s busy season (roughly June through September).

Requirements to volunteer are as follows - You must be at least 18 years old as of January 1, 2022, fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and attend mandatory virtual training on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., as well as a mandatory in-person training at the LTWC facility in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
