Four suspects arrested after high speed chase on SR88 and SR89 near Lake Tahoe

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A vehicle carrying four suspects in a Douglas County retail theft reached speeds of 102 mph on SR89 over Luther Pass before being stopped Thursday morning by multiple law enforcement agencies.

At approximately 11:05 a.m. on April 27, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer from the South Lake Tahoe office was working in Alpine County when she observed a gray van approaching from the opposite direction at a high rate of speed, estimated at 85 mph. At the time, the officer was near Upper Emigrant Trail on SR88. After she activated the radar, confirming 86 mph, the officer made a U-turn to catch up to the van with sirens and light going. The driver of the van never yielded or slowed down.

The suspect's van turned right onto SR-89 northbound and immediately began to increase its speed again, said the CHP.

At this time, a report out of Douglas County said to be on the lookout for a vehicle from a theft at the Wa She Shu Casino on US395 in Gardnerville, Nev.
The vehicle described matched the vehicle that was being pursued.

Additional patrol units were requested, including air support. The suspect's van reached a top speed of 102 mph, never attempting to yield at any point, said officers.

A spike strip was set up and as the suspects continued fleeing from officers, they drove over the spike strip, deflating the front two tires. According to reports, one passenger tried to flee and was immediately apprehended along with three other occupants of the vehicle.

The items reported stolen were recovered and turned over to the Washoe Tribal Police Dept.

This case is under investigation. Arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe were Isaiah Christopher Jennings, 22; Antione Dewayne Ellis, 21; Herbert Walter Kinchen, 23; and Ali Tali Garry Muhammad, 22.

Agencies involved in the car chase and apprehension were CHP South Lake Tahoe, Washoe Tribe Police Dept., El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, and South Lake Tahoe Police Dept.
