Wind advisory in place for Lake Tahoe Monday, advisories possible again at end of the week

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory for Lake Tahoe on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with gusts up to 100 mph possible across the Sierra ridge.

Winds will be from the west, 20-30 mph with gusts at lake level up to 55 mph expected, with stronger gusts in wind-prone areas.

Waves are expected to be 2 to 4 feet on area lakes in the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Greater Reno-Carson City- Minden Area and Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake.

This won't be the only wind event this week. The pattern of stronger winds and light showers, primarily near/north of US-50, continues next weekend.

Southwest to west gusts 25-35 mph with local gusts to 40 mph are on the table for Thursday afternoon.

Exact details are not yet known, but there is potential for additional systems into the second week of May – but generally weaker systems as the storm track shifts to the north.
