Fundraising drive and event for "Building Bright Futures" with the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe

Event Date:
May 12, 2022 - 6:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Leadership Lake Tahoe Class of 2022 is dedicated to supporting bright futures for children and is launching a fundraiser to help furnish the new Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe building. To double the impact, Desolation Hotel and Maggie's Restaurant, and Untethered Workspace have joined the efforts and will match all monetary donations up to $50,000 from May 4 through May 31.

"The new building provides a true Club experience for our members," said Jude Wood, executive director of Boys and Girls Club Lake Tahoe. "We can accommodate more children and provide them with high-quality programs in a fun and enjoyable environment."

The new Club has improved safety and observation areas, and dedicated spaces for art, and STEM for all ages from the youngest to the oldest.

"Central to that is the furniture," added Wood. "For too long the Club had to make do with donated furniture that was not always suitable for Club purposes; now we have an opportunity to get the right-sized furniture, that will withstand the wear and tear of Club life, and which will enhance our member's experience and provide greater opportunities when it comes to programs and activities."

"I believe that every time the children walk through those doors, they will feel welcomed and be excited to be a part of something spectacular," said Courtney Schmidt, current participant of Leadership Lake Tahoe.

Besides the matching fund drive, the Leadership Lake Tahoe Class is holding a fundraising event on May 12 from 6:00 p.m. t- 8:00 p.m. at Flatstick Pub in South Lake Tahoe. There will be raffles, mini-golf, and much more for everyone, families included.

Flatstick Pub is located at 4101 Lake Tahoe Blvd Suite # 101.

Leadership Lake Tahoe is a program that began in 2003 to recognize and create current and future leaders. One goal for the program is to identify the needs and challenges that our community faces, and act upon them by doing a project for a specific cause. Leadership Lake Tahoe's Class of 2022 understands how important it is to have the right environment for young people to learn and grow. The Boys and Girls Club's new building allows these young individuals to be in a safe place and have the necessary furniture and equipment to explore and develop skills in a variety of subjects.
