Lake Tahoe area recreation spots begin to open for the season

The snow is melting at recreation areas around Lake Tahoe and with warmer days ahead, many of them are beginning the opening process. Crews from USFS - Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit are accessing any winter damage to vegetation or structures, which may delay opening in some locations.
The gates to Tallac Historic Site and Kiva Picnic Area are now open, but the gate to Kiva Beach is not open. The historic site buildings will open on Memorial Day Weekend but the public can now walk around the grounds.
Round Hill Pines is open. May 1st-15th non-motorized toys are available and beginning May 15, full marina operations will be available.
Van Sickle Bi-State Park - gates are open.
Inspiration Point and Baldwin Beach are open.
National Forest gates and roads begin opening on May 15, 2021.
Please note, it is possible not all facilities at these day sites are open, or trash pick up is available. Please pack out what is brought in.

National Forest lands at Lake Tahoe are under year-round fire restrictions. Wood and charcoal fires are only allowed in open, developed campgrounds. At the beaches,
wood and charcoal fires are not permitted. Gas appliances with an on/off switch are allowed with a valid CA Campfire Permit.
