SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Did you know there is a historic cemetery in South Lake Tahoe? Learn how old the cemetery is, who is buried there, the efforts for preserving this historic site, who owned the cemetery over the years, and who owns the cemetery now.
While the last burial occurred in this Alameda Avenue cemetery in 1959, there was a special midnight reburial of Pioneer Arthur Hill in 1975 after an urn had been dug up while paving the new roads of the Al Tahoe neighborhood. There was a procession down the road one minute after midnight, November 1, 1975 to place Arthur's remains where they currently reside in the cemetery next to his wife Katherine.
A fascinating and informative PowerPoint program will be presented by Lake Tahoe Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Vice Regent Rosemary Manning. Join the Friends of the Library on Tuesday, May 23, 5:30 p.m. at the South Tahoe Branch Library to learn about the Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery.
