Could winter finally be over this week in South Lake Tahoe?

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An incoming low-pressure system brings with it a Lake Wind Advisory which is in effect on Monday, May 8 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected. Waves 1 to 3 feet with the highest waves from mid-lake to north and east shores.

There are additional chances for showers and thunderstorms across northeast California and northwest Nevada Monday with chances spreading farther south on Tuesday before warmer and drier conditions settle in after midweek, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

A deepening trough will approach the Pacific coast on Tuesday, introducing unsettled weather once again to the Sierra and western Nevada. As the base of the trough swings inland over the Sierra Tuesday afternoon, showers will start to pop along the crest of the Sierra first, then showers will fire later in the afternoon over the Basin and Range. The center of circulation will migrate over the Basin and Range from Tuesday night into Wednesday. This positioning will touch off more afternoon showers on Wednesday over the Basin and Range, although most of the precipitation will move off to the east as night falls and the system moves on. The system will also keep our temperatures in below-average territory into midweek.

By Thursday, we say goodbye to clouds and showers and hello to a warming and drying trend.

The warmer weather will bring about near-average temperatures for Thursday, and take us 5-10 degrees above average through Sunday (finally!). After that there are some models showing another storm track after that, but nothing definite this early.
