Kudos: Local "hero" replaces flags at Grocery Outlet, fixes American Legion building

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dave Ennis, a long-time South Lake Tahoe local, recently came to the rescue of two local properties - the American Legion and Grocery Outlet.

For the last few years, there has been a hole in the rear of the American Legion building where a screened grate was once in place. Dave is a member of the American Legion and told Commander Tom Milham he'd get his "Genie" lift back in town and replace the grate. Dave got up on the lift and replaced the grate.

Once done, he learned someone had vandalized the tall flag pole at the Grocery Outlet store and cut the rope that held the flag in place, not once, but twice. The owners of the Grocery Outlet replaced the rope when the first incident happened last year, but within two days someone cut the new rope and took it with them. They'd been trying to get someone to restring the rope and display their flag. Dave came to the rescue and transported his Genie over and was able to restring the flag pole so the flag could once again be flown.

Dave, who is a long-time apartment complex owner who does much of his own maintenance, said he was happy to help. He is "mostly" retired now as he will turn 80 in June.

On behalf of the American Legion, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dave for his commitment to our community and provide a needed service to those who need it. Thanks, Dave!
