SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Soroptimist Club of South Lake Tahoe is inviting the public to its meeting Wednesday when local urbanized bear expert Toogee Sielsch is their guest speaker.
Toogee's presentation will be on May 8 at 12 p.m. at the South Tahoe Association of Realtor Building at 2307 James So. Lake Tahoe CA. There is no need to RSVP.
Toogee will be discussing the history of the black bear in the South Lake Tahoe area as well as the current situation with populations now that the females have emerged from their birthing dens.
He first became interested in local bears and their behavior during his daily early morning walks around South Lake Tahoe. From those first observations to today, Toogee works with Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Fish & Wildlife, and law enforcement to assist with "bear evictions" from local homes, and recently aided National Geographic on a study of urbanized wildlife.
