Nevada State Police investigating two fatal crashes on I-580

Two Carson City men died in separate crashes on I-580 on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

The first one was at approximately 3:32 a.m. Troopers with the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division, responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash southbound on IR-580 in the area of Washoe County Mile Marker 10 in Reno.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a black 2015 Toyota Tacoma pickup was driving southbound when, for unknown reasons, allowed his vehicle to run off the roadway to the left. The Tacoma overturned and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver has been identified as Wyatt Darling, 26-years-old. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Less than an hour later, at approximately 4:12 a.m., troopers responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash southbound on IR-580 in the area of Carson City mile marker 7.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a black 2010 Subaru Legacy sedan was driving southbound when, for unknown reasons, allowed his vehicle to run off the roadway to the right, striking the jersey wall. The vehicle then continued left across the travel lanes, struck the inside guardrail, and then struck the cable barrier in the median. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver has been identified as Fernando Flores Medrano, 22-years-old. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both crashes are being investigated by the Highway Patrol Division’s Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team. The case of Darling is case #220402094. Medrano's is case #220402093.
