STPUD General Manager John Thiel gives notice, recruitment underway

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe Public Utility District's (STPUD) General Manager John Thiel has submitted his resignation, effective June 2.

During the STPUD board meeting on April 20, Human Resources Director Liz Kauffman and President David Peterson provided details regarding the recruitment of the next general manager. An executive committee meeting was held last week to further discuss the next steps.

The Board directed staff to reach out to Koff & Associates for a recruitment proposal. An ad-hoc committee has been formed to negotiate the terms of the

Thiel’s exit plan. As the search is on for a new leader, CFO Paul Hughes has agreed to serve as the interim general manager.

Thiel has worked for STPUD since 1992, and was appointed general manager in 2019 after the retirement of another long-time employee, Richard Solbrig.
