Vikingsholm trail from SR89 to Emerald Bay temporarily closed due to hazardous conditions

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - California State Parks has announced that Vikingsholm at Emerald Bay is closed so crews can work on the weather-damaged trail. Not only is the trail to the castle closed, but also the historic grounds from the Boat-In Campground around the bay to Eagle Creek.

"In the interest of preserving public health and safety, and protecting the natural and cultural resources within specified portions of park units, the Vikingsholm Trail from the Vikingsholm parking lot adjacent to State Highway 89 through Emerald Bay down to the historic complex at the Vikingsholm historic home is CLOSED to all entry and foot traffic due to hazardous conditions following the winter of 2022-23," says California State Parks.

The area is closed due to hazards presented by hazardous trees, boulders, and logs upslope of the area.

Eagle Point Campground will not open for reservations until June 16 and the
Emerald Bay Boat In Campground will not open until June 8.

It is scheduled to reopen on May 20 but those wishing to visit should watch their website at https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=506.
