Woman airlifted to Reno after US50 rollover; Baby in car seat treated and released

A woman was airlifted to Renown Medical Center in Reno after a single-vehicle rollover on U.S. Highway 50 at Camp Sacramento Sunday.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) South Lake Tahoe office, at approximately 12:14 p.m. May 9, a 26-year-old woman from Grass Valley was traveling west in a 2009 Pontiac Sebring when she rolled her vehicle. Just before the crash, the CHP has received calls about the Sebring being driven recklessly.

Upon impact, the unrestrained driver was ejected. She was transported with serious injuries according to the CHP.

The other occupant in the car, a one-year-old girl, was still buckled in her car seat after the crash. She had minor to moderate injuries and transported to Barton where she was released to the care of her father.

"The car seat saved her life," said CHP Officer Ruth Loehr.

The driver is suspected of driving under the influence, said Loehr.

There were several witnesses to the crash as well as a doctor who stopped and rendered aid at the scene.

Loehr said car seats work if installed correctly. She is available at the station in Meyers to install and inspect the seats Monday-Friday.
