Douglas County Sheriff's Office warns public of catalytic converter thefts

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is warning residents of recent catalytic converter thefts. On Sunday, May 10, the second theft of the valuable part in the Long Valley Road area of the Gardnerville Ranchoes.

The theft occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. and a witness saw the perpetrator flee the scene and get into a “white SUV,” which was waiting nearby.

The perpetrators of these recent catalytic converter thefts have targeted Ford F-250 pickup trucks, likely due to familiarity with the location of the catalytic converter and higher ground clearance providing easy access.

DCSO is asking the public to be aware of these types of thefts from vehicles.

"We are asking residents in the 700 block of Long Valley to review any home security systems including “Ring” doorbells to see if they may have any recorded footage of the suspects," said DCSO in a press release.
