South Lake Tahoe man in jail after early morning arrest

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An early morning execution of a search warrant in South Lake Tahoe Thursday resulted in the arrest of 33-year-old resident, Johnathan Towne. Neighbors in the neighborhood around Church of Latter-Day Saints church near Bijou Elementary were awoken when law enforcement from multiple agencies descended upon a home in the 3400 block of Champlain Drive.
South Lake Tahoe Police Department had its MRAP vehicle in play and law enforcement surrounded the home, according to witnesses.
Acting on a warrant out of Douglas County, Towne was arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail and is awaiting extradition.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) has not yet confirmed if this arrest is in relation to the theft of a purse and credit cards from a Stateline casino in April. The cards were used at several local businesses and investigators sought help from the public in identifying the suspect.
DCSO did say they recovered property the Champlain Avenue home that is related to some crimes on the South Shore.
DCSO investigators said no further help from the community is necessary. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
