Supervisor Laine to hold VHR forum for Meeks Bay/Tahoma area residents

Event Date:
May 25, 2023 - 5:30pm

El Dorado County District V Supervisor Brooke Laine is hosting a Vacation Home Rental (VHR) public forum for the residents of Meeks Bay, Tahoma, and the surrounding area on Thursday, May 25 from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Meeks Bay Fire Station located at 8041 Highway 89.

The purpose of this forum is to present to the public the presentation on VHR updates, and to receive questions and comments; it is solely an information-gathering exercise.

“This forum will allow for interested parties to hear the presentation that was made to the Board of Supervisors on May 2nd,” said Supervisor Brooke Laine. “We welcome your questions, comments, concerns, and experiences related to the Vacation Home Rental Ordinance.”

The current VHR Ordinance No. 5146 has been in effect since September 2021. On April 19, Laine held a forum in Meyers like the one to be held next week on the West Shore, and staff gave the same presentation to the Board on May 2. Supervisors provided direction to staff regarding four amendments to the ordinance: Add required compliance with the Vegetation Management Ordinance, increase fine amounts for health and safety violations - SB 60, include additional permit suspension options and add verbiage that allows the local contact to be decertified.

Supervisor Laine will be assembling a VHR Advisory Committee with her as the single decision-maker of the group. The committee will include staff and stakeholders to explore further potential program adjustments and/or amendments to the VHR Ordinance. All decisions of the committee will then be presented to the full Board for consideration. Applications for the committee can be found here.
