Sierra State Parks at Lake Tahoe to reopen Memorial Day Weekend

The Sierra State Parks Foundation has announced the 2021 opening date for the 2021 season for California State Parks at Lake Tahoe. Facilities will be open from May 29 (Memorial Day weekend) to September 31.

The following parks and campgrounds are to reopen on May 29:

- Sugar Pine Point State Park and Visitor Center

- Hellman-Ehrman Mansion Tours anticipated reopening June 15
- D.L. Bliss State Park and Visitor Center
- Emerald Bay State Park, Visitor Center, and Vikingsholm Castle Tour
- Kings Beach State Recreation Area
- Tahoe State Recreation Area
- Donner Memorial State Park and Visitor Center

Vikingsholm Castle is one of the most popular visitor destinations, located in Emerald Bay State Park on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Access to Vikingsholm is via a STEEP one-mile trail from the parking lot located off of Highway 89 or a less steep 1 1/2 mile trail that leaves from the Eagle Point Campground campfire center.

Tours are offered 7 days a week, between May 29th and September 30th. Tours begin every 30 minutes from 10:30 am – 4 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students aged 7 to 17 years, and those with valid college ID, active-duty soldiers, and seniors. Children under age 7 are free. Purchase tickets at the Visitor Center just past Vikingsholm. The Visitor Center is open daily during the tour season from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
