Vaccine clinics remaning in May - Large percentage of local population without first dose

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After Barton Health holds its vaccine clinic Friday and the one held by the City of South Lake Tahoe this week, there are still a few chances to get a COVID-19 vaccine in the month of May on South Shore, along with openings in the Quad County area.

In the state of California, 39.8 percent of the eligible population is vaccinated, 34.5 percent in Nevada. In El Dorado County, 37.4 percent of the total population is vaccinated, with 42.6 percent of those age 12 and older are vaccinated, and 66.7 percent of those age 65 and older are fully vaccinated. According to California Health and Human Services, 26 percent of those living in the 96150 Zip Code area have been fully vaccinated.

In Douglas County, 36.6 percent of the total population is vaccinated, with 40.5 percent of those age 12 and older are vaccinated, and 64.3 percent of those age 65 and older are fully vaccinated.

Alpine County is just one of two counties in California close to "herd immunity." Along with Marin County, the two counties have 69 percent of the population vaccinated. Lassen, Mariposa, and Kings counties are at the bottom of that list with 25 percent or less vaccination rates.
