An amazing group of young members of the South Tahoe Middle School’s Club Live were Adopt A Day of Nourishment volunteers for Bread & Broth’s (B&B) Monday Meal on May 13, 2024. “Volunteering at a B&B meal was an opportunity I’m glad I didn’t miss,” said Jimmy McKaughan. “I enjoyed seeing and meeting all of the different people in this community and being able to know you helped,” she added.
Since 2015, up to five members of Club Live have been volunteering at a Monday Meal during the month of May thanks to their club advisor and the 8th-grade Resource Specialist, Larry Lambdin. He sponsors an Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) on the Club’s behalf so that the middle school student members have the opportunity to experience first-hand volunteering and interfacing with the beneficiaries of their volunteer efforts.
Club Live provides South Middle School students the opportunity to experience leadership events, participate in community service projects, and enjoy recreational trips all focused on providing safe and high-energy alternative activities. The Club is open to all STMS students and its goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Joining Jimmy at the Monday Meal serving were fellow Club Live members Lauren Auld, Jordan Fried, Carter Moynihan, and Dylan Zentner. Larry and Paula Lambdin and co-club advisor Jessica Melton accompanied the club members and also lent their time to help with the meal. The AAD crew helped with every aspect of the meal from the setup; serving the meal, drinks, and desserts; packing and handing out ‘giveaway’ food; wrapping utensils; cleanup; and drying items washed by the B&B dishwasher.
The Club Live members were so excited and enthused by their volunteering at the Monday Meal that two members in addition to Jimmy wanted to share their comments about their volunteer service. According to Dylan, “It was my first time volunteering at Bread & Broth, and it was a very fun experience.” Jordan also had a fun time and said, “It’s a great way to feel part of your community.”
