Community invited to attend lunchtime series on stigma and complexities of substance-use

Event Date:
June 2, 2021 - 12:30pm

The El Dorado County Opioid Coalition (EDCOC) and the Sierra Harm Reduction Coalition (SHRC) are co-hosting a free virtual educational series, Community Awareness Substance-use Education (CASE). The event is the first Wednesday of every month beginning on June 2, 2021, and going through Dec. 1, 2021, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The series focuses on making the CASE towards breaking through the barriers of stigma and the complexities of substance use.

“In our rural community, we have misunderstandings around substance use and the continuum of care for substance use treatment," said the Executive Director of Sierra Harm Reduction Coalition, David Jay. "For CASE, we invite the entire community to join us for informational, emotional, and relational conversations about issues around substance use. We elevate the conversation around substance use in El Dorado County by inviting everyone to the table. We help each other help each other.”

EDCOC is a community-wide collaborative of public and private partners working collectively to open dialogue on the harmful effects of stigma, the complexities of substance use, and the availability of Medicated Assisted Treatment programs and harm reduction resources available within El Dorado County. There are several local presenters from Sierra Harm Reduction Coalition, the El Dorado Community Health Center, and other health and wellness-focused community organizations.
