LTUSD Board of Trustees to discuss moving Mt. Tallac campus, new position, and STHS student success

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees will hold its next meeting both in person and online on Thursday, May 25 starting at 5 p.m.

The board will go into a closed session, then resume with an open session at 6 p.m.

On the agenda:

Discussion of moving Mt. Tallac High School to the Al Tahoe Learning Center. This is an informational item about a move that comes after collaborative conversations with Mt. Tallac staff and their desire to move the location to a more centralized region, allowing increased support of the students' needs specific to career-oriented internships. This transition will be effective at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

South Tahoe High Principal Zunino will highlight some of his students for their remarkable accomplishments.

The Board will be voting on an MOU for the shared director for the Family Resource Center (FRC) and the LTUSD Multilingual Learner Equity. The estimated cost of the shared director is $187,627 ($142,576.88 salary plus $45,050 in statutory benefits and health and welfare). The District's portion is $93,813 which will primarily be funded by the Supplemental Grant. This results in an overall savings of approximately $54,821 from FY 2022-23. FRC Executive Director Bill Martinez is retiring in June.

During the last LTUSD Board meeting, Martinez emphasized the importance of the 30-year partnership between LTUSD and FRC and noted that the partnership "needs to continue to grow, nurture, and foster greater participation from the community.” He said the proposed joint position will add stability to FRC. LTUSD Director of Multilingual Learner Equity Karen Goldberg shared that the two missions of the organizations are interrelated and this would be a powerful innovative model.
