If all goes as planned, a new feature will be started at South Lake Tahoe's Happy Homestead Cemetery in the new few weeks that will honor veterans and public safety officers.
The new memorial walkway will display bricks that can be purchased in memory of those both alive and deceased as well as marble plaques that will honor those who have served.
A grassy area in the center of the cemetery, right behind the office, will be the area the monument will be built.
Bricks are available for purchase for $100. They come in one size, 5 1/2" x 8," and can hold up to three lines of text with 18 characters per line (spaces and punctuation count). The top line of the brick will say either "In Honor of" or "In Memory of," the second line will hold the name of the veteran or public safety officer and the third line will hold the branch of service and rank.
To purchase a brick, contact the Cemetery District at 530-541-7070 or by email at h.dist@att.net.
