SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After a week of warm days, the weather will change just in time for the Memorial Day Weekend at South Lake Tahoe. The weekend will be breezy and cooler, and the weather will be unsettled.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for Thursday, May 26 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. This advisory covers Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, Fallen Leaf Lake, and Prosser and Boca reservoirs.
Winds will be from the southwest, 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected. There should be waves of 2 to 3 feet on Lake Tahoe.
Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.
As with every day, be fire safe and smart this busy Memorial Day weekend. If you are enjoying outdoor activities such as camping, off-roading, or BBQing, be sure to have plenty of extra water available and follow any local fire restrictions. Be extra vigilant and cautious, and don`t be that person that ignites a fire this weekend.
Keep an eye on the forecasts as there could be further fire advisories or warnings.
