Letter to the Editor: Why we support Brooke Laine for Supervisor

The Laine family has had a cabin in Christmas Valley for 88 years (!) which the family enjoys each summer. When the Calder fire roared up the canyon, Brooke and a neighbor didn't wait for help. They cleared 85 bags of duff from the forest floor and built a firebreak the length of six cabins. No one else was doing it, so they did.
This is a good example of why we’re supporting Brooke for County Supervisor. Yes, there are plenty of reasons to vote for Brooke. She's well-qualified to serve our end of the County. She grew up here and went to school here. She knows the ropes of representing us and making policy-- she was twice elected to City Council and twice served as Mayor. She's worked in her family's small business, coached her kids' teams, and spearheaded many volunteer initiatives that have made the place we live an even better place to call home. She enjoys the outdoors and all of the aspects of Tahoe that make living here so special. All of these experiences have helped her understand the needs of Tahoe residents, having lived them herself. Yet most important, at least to us? When Brooke sees something that needs doing, she works with others-- or by herself!-- to get it done.
