South Tahoe High Sober Grad Night needs financial help from the community

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 31st annual South Tahoe High Sober Grad Night will be held for graduates on June 16. The committee is seeking donations from the community to make it a night to remember for the Class of 2023.

Each year the Safe and Sober Grad Night Organization, a local 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, run by a dedicated team of local volunteers, fundraises and coordinates the logistics for this one-of-a-kind event.

An in-kind Vail Resorts grant supports the event every year. This year it will be held at Heavenly’s California Base Lodge from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

There are years and years of purchased and homemade decorations stored in the Sober Grad Night facility, allowing the decoration team to be as creative as possible. Over the years, the themes of items stored include underwater, beach, Tiki, jungle, Paris, mardi gras, and most importantly glitter and glam to cover almost every surface of the building used. Sometimes, replacement or new items are necessary.

Each graduating senior who attends will enjoy a unique, fun-filled, action-packed safe and sober celebration of their achievements. The night will be filled with casino games, tarot cards, palm readers, caricature artists, face and body painters, sharpie tattoo artists, Mock Rock, Black Light Minute-to-Win-it, and a photo booth. They even have a t-shirt decorating table and an art and crafts area. The outdoor activities include a climbing wall, sumo wrestling, obstacle course, velcro wall, and Ga-Ga-Ball. Possible food items will be a taco truck along with pizza, and deli sandwiches, and for desserts, ice cream bars, cookies, cupcakes, and plenty of drinks for everyone including the volunteers and vendors. The evening will be wrapped up with an hour-long comedic close-up magic show by Joel Ward followed by another hour-long celebrity hypnotist by Barry Jones which should not be missed by anyone. There will either be raffle prizes or a gift bag handed out to everyone as they leave the event. In addition, organizers will have hourly and event raffles, a bicycle raffle, and an end-of-the-night grand prize, winners need to be present to win!

In order to continue to make this happen each year, the South Tahoe High Sober Grad Night committee needs your help. This event cannot occur without support from friends, neighbors, and community businesses.

Please consider donating so they can keep this organization and one-of-a-kind event for the local graduating seniors going. There are photos of links to Venmo and Paypal above, or, if so inclined, please email sthsgradnight@gmail.com for details on how to donate.
