SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After an extensive nationwide search for a new CEO, the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber) has chosen its next leader from home turf. They announced on Wednesday they have hired former South Lake Tahoe mayor, and longtime local community leader Cristi Creegan as CEO.
“The Board and I are appreciative of the community members who served on the selection panel, as well as the many candidates who submitted applications, especially the significant number of regional applicants," said Chamber Board Chair Chris Proctor. "The hiring of a community leader is never an easy decision, but we believe that Cristi is the right person to work with the board to revitalize the chamber’s programming. Cristi’s love of Tahoe, her community experience, and her inclination to collaborate with partners was evident during the interviewing process. She expressed a solid understanding of the importance of the chamber and its diversified programming including business education, community championing and convening leaders related to difficult issues as well as advocating on behalf of businesses. A strong chamber is directly correlated to a healthy local economy and the board, and I are looking forward to working in partnership with Cristi to achieve our goals.”
Creegan has a long historyleadership in the South Lake Tahoe community over the past 27 years, including local business ownership, and positions with nonprofit boards, and school organizations. She was elected to the City Council in 2020, was mayor in 2023, and will complete her term at the end of this year. It was important to Creegan and the Board that she honor her previous commitment to the community by fulfilling the responsibilities of her city council position.
“I’m really looking forward to this opportunity to support our community members in a new way," said Creegan. "In the past, I’ve focused on children and families and, during my council term, my constituents. Being able to directly support and serve community business owners and strengthen the local economy is a challenge I’m eager to meet.”
“Tahoe Chamber’s new fiscal year commences July 1, so the timing is ideal for the new board members as well as existing board members to commence efforts on behalf of our members” stated former Chamber Chair, Frank Gerdeman.
The chamber plans to host a mixer soon for members to meet Cristi and the new board members. More details will follow on this. She will commence her duties as the organization’s President and CEO on June 10 and can be reached at CEO@TahoeChamber.org or 775.588.1728
