DCSO prepares for Carson Valley Days - Asks public to take safety precautions

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - It is time for the 111th annual Carson Valley Days celebration and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) urges attendees and those traveling through Minden and Gardnerville to use extra precautions on the road. The event will be held from June 11 to June 13.

The Carson Valley Days Parade will be held on Saturday, June 12 and US-395 will be closed from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. DCSO wants to let drivers know that f they need to get across town to do it prior to 8:00 a.m. so plan ahead. The theme for this year’s parade is “In a Valley Far Far Away,” a tribute to “Star Wars.”

The event includes a carnival and craft fair in Lampe Park.

Extra DCSO deputies will be assigned to several levels of enforcement during the parade and activities following. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. They will be joined by the Nevada Highway Patrol at the parade.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking parade-goers to:

- Please stay out of the road and on the sidewalks as to not interfere with the parade route.
- Maintain possession of your cell phone, wallet, and other valuables, and don’t leave them in your car.
- Dress for the weather and be cautious of the heat.
- Be courteous and aware of flaggers and Citizen Patrol Volunteers.

Not sure if you’ve had too much to drink? Then don’t drive. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reminds you that law enforcement will be out in full force throughout Douglas County during the Carson Valley Days Weekend. Don’t risk harming others, losing your license, your car, and your freedom. Plan before you start drinking. Designate a sober driver, call a friend, take a cab or do a ride-share app or you’ll be taking a ride straight to jail. DCSO Reminder - "You Drink and Drive. You lose."
