Fundraiser for Riva Grill partner and general manager fighting ALS

Over the years, Scott Craig, partner and general manager of Riva Grill, has donated thousands of dollars to numerous charities and fundraisers in Lake Tahoe. It would be hard to find a time when Scott denied a request for a good cause.

The community now has an opportunity to give back and help Scott and his daughter, Emily get through a series of tragic events. In 2016, Scott’s wife Jennifer was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Doctors gave her 2.5 years to live, but sadly, Jennifer barely made it one year to the month of diagnosis. Her sudden passing shook Scott and his daughter to the core. But with the support of his family, friends, and employer, Riva Grill, they were determined to move forward.

One year later, Scott noticed some odd symptoms in his arm and hand. Being a past powerlifter, it was a bit alarming so when it did not go away, he reached out for medical attention. A year after losing his wife to cancer, Scott found out he had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It is a nervous system disorder that wears away nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Currently, there is no known cure or treatment that halts or reverses the progression of ALS.

For the past year, Scott continued to manage Riva Grill until he could no longer do so. He is now faced with enormous medical expenses as well as the need to somehow continue saving money for his 17-year-old daughter, Emily's education. By the end of the year, Scott will need to leave Lake Tahoe and relocate to get help from his family in Oklahoma.

There is a Going Away Party and fundraiser on Wednesday, June 9 at 6:00 p.m. with the generous support of Tom Turner, owner of The Riva Grill. During his party, there will be an online auction and live auction to generate money to help Scott and his daughter.

This is an opportunity for you to help give back to Scott for all he has done for our community.

The cost of the event is $100. The Riva Grill is located at 900 Ski Run Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. The auction is open HERE and bids are being accepted. The auction is open to everyone and need not attend to participate.
