Fire on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe

6/10/21 UPDATE: The Meeks Fire is now 90 percent contained after burning 2.6 acres. Fire crews worked throughout the night and the fire is now 90% contained. They will remain in the area continuing to mop up hotspots and patrol for lingering smokes throughout the day. The cause a tree into powerlines causing the powerline.

5:20 p.m. UPDATE: Firefighters have made great progress. The fire is now at 50 percent containment. Firefighters will be on the scene throughout the night. Hwy 89 was closed from about 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please avoid the area to allow crews to continue their work.

4:50 p.m. update: SR89 was closed for a short time between D.L. Bliss State Park and 3 Ring Road to assist with the first responder's access to the fire. It has reopened but use caution if traveling in the area. The fire was fueled by gusty winds. Fire crews have stopped the forward spread at approximately 2.5 acres and mitigated the threat to structures.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. 4:10 p.m. update: The Meeks Fire is at 2 acres burning on state land north of DL Bliss State Park and south of Rubicon Estates. Air response has arrived and there is a full ground response.

There is a big response to a fire near Ring Road at Rubicon Bay on the west shore. No details are available at this time and this story will be updated as information comes in.
