SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It's here! On Saturday, June 10, Clean Tahoe is holding its annual $5 Community Cleanup Day, fondly known as Dump Day. Get rid of the items you've had in the grade or house, waiting to be taken to the dump. It is held at the South Tahoe Refuse Transfer Station.
New this year is a service for senior citizens only. Help is available for seniors that have a hard time transporting and disposing of furniture or other bulk items. Seniors need to call 530-544-4210 to make an appointment to get items picked up.
There have been rumors that Clean Tahoe will be driving through neighborhoods and transporting items left on the street for all residents, but these rumors are untrue. For the seniors who have called Clean Tahoe for a pickup, items must be curbside and there is a $5 fee.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at South Tahoe Refuse, 2140 Ruth Avenue, South Lake Tahoe, people can take their vehicles with residential loads and pay just $5. Nevada residents will pay $10 as will all locals bringing a truck and trailer. Oversize trucks and U-Hauls are priced per load.
Mattresses and Box Springs are free (maximum 4 units), recycled through Bye Bye Mattress.
Computer monitors and TVs are free for California residents.
Document shredding is free (limit 3 boxes and provided by Iron Mountain).
Refrigerators are free instead of the normal $57.40 due to the generosity of the local Pay It Forward Project.
Commercial loads will pay the regular price and no concrete, dirt, asphalt, roofing, or commercial construction material will be accepted.
The Community Cleanup Day is made possible by a grant from Vail Epic Promise and sponsors South Tahoe Refuse & Recycling, Iron Mountain, Mattress Recycling Council, California Conservation Corps, and Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe.
