South Tahoe High School seniors celebrate graduation at their elementary schools

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Buses left South Tahoe High School (STHS) Monday morning with a big mission to accomplish - delivering the graduating seniors back to where their education began in South Lake Tahoe.

This was the inaugural senior walk during graduation week in South Lake Tahoe, walking the halls in their cap and gown before doing the same across the STHS football field.

One by one, the seniors filed out of the buses onto the school grounds, greeted by cheers from the students and teachers at those elementary schools.

The procession at each school was done a little differently, some had the kindergartners escort each senior, and others had kids lining the hallways as the seniors walked down the middle, seven years after they last did in fifth grade.

It was an exciting, touching experience for the young students, as well as for the seniors. Cheers, clapping, and even some bubbles followed the procession.

At Sierra House, the seniors took pictures with the younger ones and signed autograph books in the kindergarten playground (we might have even seen a few seniors on the swings and playing games!).

There are 249 students in the STHS Class of 2024. Of those, 57 went to Bijou Elementary, 30 went to Tahoe Valley Elementary, 70 went to Sierra House Elementary, and 43 went to Meyers Elementary. The remaining 49 seniors completed their elementary school years in other areas.
