Next TERC talk: A Lifetime of Science at Lake Tahoe, with Brant Allen

Event Date:
June 22, 2023 - 5:30pm

On Thursday, June 22, UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) will be hosting its next Science Speaks lecture at Granlibakken Tahoe located at 725 Granlibakken Road just south of Tahoe City.

Brant Allen, a long-time researcher at Lake Tahoe, will present photos and reminiscences from his three decades of studying Lake Tahoe’s clarity, productivity, and food web changes. Recently, Tahoe’s zooplankton numbers plummeted. These tiny aquatic organisms are important to the lake’s food web and help regulate algae concentrations. The decline of non-native zooplankton, the Mysis shrimp, marks an opportunity to better understand lake clarity. Other changes and interesting phenomena have been witnessed over the years. Join us for stunning images and a chance to learn from Brant’s amazing career in scientific investigation at Lake Tahoe.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Presentation begins at 6 p.m.

Advanced tickets are $10 and free for students with a student ID. Tickets at the door are $15. Refreshments and a no-host bar will be available from 5:30 - 6 p.m. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. in the Mountain Room at Granlibakken Tahoe, 725 Granlibakken Rd, Tahoe City. Ample parking is available.

There will be an open bar with wine, beer, mixed cocktails, sodas, and sparkling water. Granlibakken can accept credit cards or cash. Organizers will also be providing a fruit, cheese, and charcuterie tray. Dining is also available at the Cedar House Pub inside Granlibakken.
