SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The finishing touches are being put on six two-story homes off Emerald Bay Road that will be used as vacation and short-term rentals. The accomplishment was celebrated Friday with a ribbon-cutting with the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, the builders, and the City of South Lake Tahoe. Earlier in the day the owners and builders celebrated the accomplishment with their local contractors and partners.
When Measure T passed in South Lake Tahoe, which phased out vacation home rentals (VHRs) in neighborhoods, the use as a short-term rental was still allowed in the Tourist Core and commercially zoned areas. The one-half-acre lot where the new Emerald Bay Cabins are located is in a commercial zone.
Owner of the lot, builder Eric Barstad of South Lake Tahoe teamed up with Roman Kreminski and Melissa Wong to create the six units which are all a carbon copy of the other, with upstairs and downstairs outside space and garages. Once the final permits are obtained, they will be listed for rent at https://www.emeraldbaycabins.com/.
Barstad, who is a graduate of South Tahoe High, went before the South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission in March 2021 to have major design review and special use permit reviewed.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was to welcome Emerald Bay Cabins as the newest members of the South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.
