Virtual Town Hall on sustainable tourism and responsible recovery for Lake Tahoe

Event Date:
June 18, 2021 - 11:00am

The South Shore community is invited to discuss the Lake Tahoe region's tourism recovery in a Virtual Town Hall led by Dr. Gregory A. Miller, Center for Responsible Travel (CREST) Executive Director. Sponsored by the Tahoe Chamber, the Town Hall will be held on Friday, June 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Zoom.

CREST and its partners collected information on COVID-19 impacts from the tourism sector. This research provided background and insight towards developing a framework for responsible recovery and the thirteen guidelines in rebalancing the tourism model.

Redevelopment of tourism must consider COVID-19 and climate change as two crises requiring one coordinated approach towards a sustainable future.

In May of this year, CREST released the book Overtourism: Lessons for a Better Future which explores the issue of overtourism prior to the pandemic then charts the path to a better and regenerative industry.
