Firefighters extinguish second small fire near Lake Tahoe in three days

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - What has been called the "Valley Fire" was reported at approximately 2:30 p.m. by someone who spotted it from the Echo Summit area. Firefighters from Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU), CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit, and Lake Valley Fire Protection District along with air support responded to the wildfire on National Forest land south of Christmas Valley.

The size of the fire is between one-quarter and one-half acre. Forward progress has been stopped and the hand line around the fire is almost complete.

The cause is under investigation.

On Friday, LTBMU Engine 342 and Fire Prevention Patrols 42 and 43 responded quickly to a small wildfire at the Sand Pits near South Lake Tahoe. This fire was named the "Industrial Fire" and it stayed small, approximately 5ft x 5ft.

The cause of this fire is also under investigation.

Several fires started in California on Sunday, including the Quartz Fire being fought by CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit near SR49 between the towns of El Dorado and Nashville. It is being reported as 16 acres at this time.

The Excelsior Fire in Sacramento south of Mather Air Force Base is currently 876.5 acres.

The Butte started Saturday near the community of Robinson Mills is 50 percent contained and 17.7 acres. The Junes Fire also started Saturday in Butte County and is ‎1076, 82 percent contained.

Thousands of acres have burned in Southern California since Saturday.
