South Tahoe Football Club teams claim tourney titles, second weekend of CUFA coming up

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The successful spring season for South Tahoe Futbol Club (STFC) continued last weekend at the Copa de las Sierras tournament in Truckee and over this past weekend in South Lake Tahoe.

The STFC Under-14 girls, coached by LTCC assistant Derick Gonzalez, claimed the Come Up for Air (CUFA) tournament title on Father’s Day Sunday with a 3-2 win over the Carson FC Venom. The team won all four of its games and outscored its opponents 18-3.

Earlier this month in Truckee, the STFC Under-9 boys, coached by Meghan Kelly and Pat Kelly, won all four games and outscored the opposition by 16 goals. Also the regular season champion of the GBYSL Select Gold Division, the U-9 team defeated Truckee River United 5-1 in last Sunday’s championship game.

On the girls’ side last weekend, the STFC Under-12 coach girls defeated Truckee River United 2-0 in Sunday’s championship match. Coached by Gilberto Rodriguez, the team won three games, tied one, and outscored the opposition 12-4 over the weekend. The U-12 girls lost in the championship game at CUFA.

The 28th annual CUFA tournament in South Lake Tahoe continues this upcoming weekend for the boys' event. The tournament attracts over 450 teams annually and provides an economic benefit of $2.5 million to area businesses.
