Tallac Historic Site and Taylor Creek Visitor's Center release summer program schedule

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Great Basin Institute (GBI) and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) have announced the summer schedule of programs at the Tallac Historic Site and Taylor Creek Visitor Center on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.

Taylor Creek Visitor Center kicks off its summer events with Wild Tahoe Weekend on June 24-25, 2023, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Lake Tahoe Bird Festival takes place on Saturday and the Native Species Festival wraps up the weekend on Sunday. Sponsored by the Tahoe Institute of Natural Science (TINS) and GBI, this free, fun, family-friendly event features guided bird walks, live birds of prey, presentations on native plants and animals of the Lake Tahoe Basin, games, crafts, and more!

The Lake of the Sky Amphitheater evening programs begin on Fri., July 7, from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. with George Whittell, Jr., presented by Steve Hale. Other evening programs include Creative Nature Observation with El Dorado County Library, A Final Evening with Mark Twain and Farewell to McAvoy Lane hosted by Snowshoe Thompson, and Winged Flight at Night by NorCal Bats. Tallac Historic Site events kick off with Heritage Day on Sat., July 1, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Other programs include encore Heritage Days, Vatican Speakeasy at the Pope Estate, and the beloved Great Gatsby Festival. The Tallac Site also offers daily tours and programs including Pope and Boat house tours, a Grand Estate Tour, Artist-in-Residence, Kitchen Kids, and Tallac After Dark. In partnership with LTBMU, GBI develops and sponsors these programs in support of environmental education and public recreation. All proceeds directly support the interpretation and preservation of the Tallac Historic Site and the Taylor Creek Visitor Center.

The Tallac Historic Site and Taylor Creek Visitor Center are located approximately three miles north of South Lake Tahoe on the lake side of Highway 89.
