South Lake Tahoe 4th of July fireworks and parade information

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The nationally recognized “Lights on the Lake” fireworks extravaganza entails 20 minutes of bright lights and colors that illuminate the night sky to celebrate a memorable traditional Independence Day.

The show will feature a spectacular array of explosive formations synchronized to the musical sounds of American classics and today’s top hits, broadcast live from KRLT-FM (93.9FM). Besides viewing from a boat, the top spots for the 9:45 p.m. show include Nevada Beach, Timber Cove Beach, Lakeview Commons, and Van Sickle Bi-State Park. Area officials advise viewers to plan ahead, consider alternative modes of transportation and take all personal belongings and any trash when the show concludes.

“The Fourth of July weekend is shaping up to be another Tahoe family tradition with a parade, beach time, live music, outdoor recreation, and fireworks overlooking the lake,” said Carol Chaplin, president and CEO of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. “With the holiday being midweek, there are still opportunities for accommodations but several properties are nearly sold out. Area officials anticipate heavy traffic volume throughout the holiday week and highly recommend alternative modes of transit: Lake Link, rideshare, bike, walk, etc. Visitors should have a backup plan if parking areas/beaches/trailheads are full. Please take trash when leaving your viewing spot, and check out the Know Before You Go page with any pertinent information, updates, and tips to have a memorable and safe holiday weekend.”

To start the holiday off right, the City of South Lake Tahoe is holding its Fourth of July parade on Tuesday, July 4 starting at 9 a.m. The parade starts on Ski Run Boulevard, then proceeds in the westbound lanes of US50 to Al Tahoe Boulevard where the route turns up Al Tahoe and ends at Bijou Community Park. The westbound lanes of US50 will be closed starting at 8:30 a.m. until the end of the parade. Eastbound U.S. Highway 50 will remain open.

The parade's theme is Celebrating the Red, White & Big Blue! This year's parade grand marshal is Tom Davis, former South Lake Tahoe mayor and council member, and long-time parade volunteer. Emcee for the parade is Mike Peron.

The Nevada National Guard 192nd Squadron will be flying over Lakeview Commons at 10 a.m. with their C130 Model H. Don't forget to look up!

Plan out your viewing spot as the route fills up with revelers.

The 4th of July Parade will also feature "The Best of the Parade Awards." A dedicated judging panel will carefully score all parade entries in the following categories: Best Commercial Entry, Best Nonprofit Entry, Best Youth Entry, Best Classic Auto, and Anything Goes (a category for everything else!). The winners will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the parade.
