Guided history tours of Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery return

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Take a step back in time over the holiday weekend as you enjoy a guided tour of the Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery on July 5 and July 6. The tours will be led by one of the inhabitants of the only historic cemetery in the Lake Tahoe Basin, Susan Close Young who was buried there in 1971 at the age of 91. Those on the tours will also hear stories about some of Tahoe’s earliest settlers!
The tours are $5 per person and proceeds go to the restoration efforts at the cemetery. Improvements this summer will include over 100 stone grave markers that will be placed on the locations a ground ground-penetrating sonar detected gravesites.
Tours will be held at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, July 5, and Saturday, July 6. To ensure your spot, call or stop by the Lake Tahoe History Museum to pay prior to the tours. Money will not be collected during the tour and space is limited.
The museum is open on Friday and Saturday this holiday week, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 530.541.5458 and leave a message if interested and docents will return the call when opened.
The cemetery is located at 760 Alameda Ave., South Lake Tahoe, and sorry, no pets allowed.
