Barton Rehabilitation installs new gait and safety technology for improved treatment efficiency

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barton Rehabilitation Services has invested in new technology to help patients relearn to walk and achieve mobility goals. The Bioness Vector Elite Gait and Safety System is designed to improve treatment efficiency, reduce patient falls, and prevent clinician injuries. Utilizing the system, Barton Rehabilitation will continue to rehabilitate patients recovering from stroke and amputations, orthopedic, brain and spinal cord injuries, and other neurocognitive disabilities and return to daily activities in a safe manner.

“Our treatment and recovery programs focus on getting patients back to what they love doing efficiently and safely as possible. This tool provides a feeling of safety and comfort in patients that are working to regain strength and mobility while also empowering our therapists to develop effective and challenging rehabilitation programs,” said Alan Barichivich, MS, PT, Director of Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine, and Performance with Barton Health. “The ‘Vector’ makes it possible for a single therapist to assist a patient in groundbreaking progress, such as safely relearning to walk, climb stairs, avoid obstacles, and stand by themselves—improving their quality of life and creating added confidence during their recovery.”

Suspended from a custom-designed ceiling track system, the Vector provides a safe, algorithm-driven support system that allows patients to regain mobility by unloading a precise amount of bodyweight under the care of a single therapist. The system’s Intuitive Bodyweight Support feature continuously offsets a specified amount of the patient’s weight as they move, so they can safely and confidently perform rehabilitative exercises.

"The Vector has proved to be an incredible tool for my rehabilitation programs—creating freedom and flexibility for individualized treatment, no matter where my patients are in their recovery," said Morgan Humble, DPT. "A fear of falling in individuals can be debilitating and it also can be predictive of future falls, however, with the Vector, I have patients standing, walking, jogging, hopping, and performing activities that safely accelerate their rehabilitation."
