Taylor Creek Visitor Center Stream Profile Chamber reopens after vandals destroyed the glass

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Repairs have been completed and the Stream Profile Chamber at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center has reopened according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU). Vandals destroyed the glass two years ago, and it has taken until now to get ready for the public.

The Profile Chamber closed in 2018 for damage to a smaller panel in the chamber that happened during cleaning, and it reopened in 2019, and was closed during COVID and 2022 due to a low water year. It was closed again due to the vandals, but now the public can enjoy it again.

The Rainbow Trail and Taylor Creek Visitor Center is one of the LTBMU's most popular areas for people to visit. The Visitor Center is open Wednesday-Sunday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the Stream Profile is open 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the same days

For public safety, no bikes, skateboards, food, beverages, or pets are permitted in the chamber.

"Many thanks to everyone who supported the effort to reopen the chamber including the contractors who worked diligently over many months under difficult conditions to repair the chamber and the dedicated visitor center staff who had the challenging task of cleaning the chamber in preparation for reopening. Special thanks to Mila Bock with the National Forest Foundation for facilitating the glass replacement for this project," said the LTBMU on social media.

The Taylor Creek area is located off of SR89 north of Camp Richardson and the Fallen Leaf Lake turnoff.
