Military flyover right above Lakeview Commons starts the 4th of July parade

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Final preparations are underway for the South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade. There are over 60 entries and over 200 people taking part in the parade which runs along US-50/Lake Tahoe Blvd. from Ski Run Blvd. to Bijou Community Park.

The theme of the parade is "Tahoe Strong: A salute to our heroes."

To start things off at 10 a.m. on Monday, there will be a military flyover right above Lakeview Commons courtesy of the Nevada Air National Guard, 152nd Airlift Wing "High Rollers."

For those unable to attend in person, the parade will be live-streamed on the City's YouTube channel and Facebook page.

For the first time, the City is awarding "Best of Parade" awards for Best Float Entry, Best Walking Entry, Best Youth Entry, Best Decorated Vehicle(s), and the History & Heritage Award. Judges will be along the route and the winners will be released on July 7.

Musical Performances: The Cash Only Band and The Sierra Gypsies. You can't miss South Tahoe Refuse & Recycling and MV Trucking as they roll on by with some of our favorite local bands in tow.

Honorary Guests: Representatives from our sister city Ameca, Mexico. Cheer on our friends that came all the way from Mexico to celebrate with us.

Parade Emcee: Mike Peron. Get a spot near champions plaza for some extra entertainment.

The following roads will be closed for the parade:

Roads intersecting with Lake Tahoe Blvd (Hwy 50) along the parade road will be closed to through traffic heading westbound beginning at 9:30 a.m. The eastbound lanes of Hwy 50 will remain open with slowed traffic control. Roads will open back up once the parade concludes. Expect the road to be fully re-opened by 2 p.m.

The Lights on the Lake fireworks show on July 4 starts at 9:45 p.m., as soon as the sky is dark enough to highlight the display. The fireworks are set off from three barges on Lake Tahoe, off the shore of Edgewood Tahoe near the state line. They are synchronized to music that will be carried live on KRLT-FM 93.9. A pre-show broadcast starts at 5 p.m. with Howie Nave and Steve Harness.
