The story has been updated below to reflect new information.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A woman visiting Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe with friends on July 4 has died after falling over Eagle Falls, according to El Dorado County Sheriff Capt. Michael Lensing.

Lensing said Ishrat and her friend parked outside the Eagle Falls parking lot, crossed the highway, and went over the guard rail to see the top of the falls. He said it appears the deceased wanted to put her toes in the water of the upper pool of the falls and held her friend's hand. She slipped and went over the falls.

People in another group were in the area, videotaping the scenery, and caught the tragedy on film. Earlier reports said the victim was being photographed by friends before falling, and that was incorrect. The two groups did not know each other.

El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue located the woman deceased.

Hometown and name will not be released until the next of kin has been notified.
