South Lake Tahoe fire being investigated as arson

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Monday's fire in the meadow behind Motel 6 in South Lake Tahoe is being investigated as arson by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD).

On July 3 at 9:25 a.m., South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, U.S. Forest Service, and CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit responded to the wildfire. The quick response kept the fire at one-quarter of an acre.

Many details cannot be released at this time as the fire is still under investigation, but at this time, South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) said it appears two people experiencing homelessness were involved in an argument and one intentionally started the fire.

SLTPD Lt. Nick Carlquist said the investigation may reveal other factors such as assault. They have identified some of the parties involved, but not all. If anyone in the public has information about this case, please call the SLTPD detectives at 530-542-6100 and reference Case Number 2307-0016.
