SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There has been an outpouring of support for the family and friends of Andy Martinez, the South Lake Tahoe teen who was killed in the Pioneer Trail crash on Thursday.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established to assist with funeral costs and other upcoming expenses.
Andy was known as a beloved member of the South Lake Tahoe community who just graduated from high school with plans to possibly attend a trade school or community college. His friends said he had played soccer and basketball.
"Anyone who knew Andy loved his humorous and deeply caring personality and will never forget his ear-to-ear smile," said GoFundMe organizer Jennifer Ruiz. "We appreciate all the love and support that Andy has received throughout his life; even now, the enormous displays of affection from the community lift our spirits up during this difficult time."
A candlelight vigil was held at the site of the crash on Friday.
"We are overwhelmed with gratitude and share our sincere appreciation with every single one of you that has taken the time to call, text, and drop off candles, flowers, food, and everything else to let us know that we are not alone," continued Ruiz.
Tube Tahoe shared a tribute to Andy. He was one of their employees this past winter.
Mt. Tallac High School shared this story on Instagram earlier this evening: The Mt. Tallac family is devastated by the loss of Andy. Students are “supporting and caring for each other” in kinship over this tremendous loss. Some of the comments:
“He was the best part of school.”
“He is deeply loved by us all.”
“I am going to graduate for him since he always pushed me to finish.”
When you think of a Tallac graduate, remember who Andy was; kind, intelligent, and a friend to everyone. Andy, we know you are rising like a Phoenix. Tallac family, we are here to grieve with you. Please continue to look out for one another and reach out as needed. Andy would want only the best for each of you.
