Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe coming to South Shore, opening Winter 2023

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - What was once Embassy Suites and the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel in South Lake Tahoe will be emerging as the Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe by the end of 2023 after a multi-million dollar top-to-bottom reimagination. On Tuesday Margaritaville announced the debut of Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe - the brand’s first lodging location in a ski destination and the only all-suite resort in South Lake Tahoe. The rumor had been circulating for a few weeks as the project went through the planning process.

The nine-story open atrium is staying and will feature the lobby and License to Chill Bar with ample seating – forming a central hub for guests. The resort will have 399 rooms, all for those seeking a slice of paradise amidst the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe.

There will be several signature Margaritaville emblems on display in the lobby, all with a Lake Tahoe twist. The signature 13-foot flip flop will be a bright emerald green, inspired by Emerald Bay, while a large double-sided fireplace with margarita glass chandeliers on each side will provide a gathering place after a day on the slopes or on the water.

"We are so excited to share this iconic brand with one of the premier year-round adventure and ski destinations in the United States," said Steve Contos, executive vice president of Davidson Resorts. "With the property’s opening, we invite travelers to experience the escapism of Margaritaville in a whole new setting, whether they’re seeking an action-packed vacation or a relaxing getaway.”

The new resort will be managed by Davidson Resorts. Concepted by creative interior design agency The McBride Company, the resort’s design will seamlessly blend Margaritaville’s casual luxury with the natural aesthetic of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada.

The meeting and event space will remain with two conference rooms and six conference suites totaling over 14,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.

The all-suite location will offer a variety of thoughtful features and amenities for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. The rooms all boast stunning views of the lake or mountains and start at 599 square feet in size, featuring separate bedroom and living room spaces with a dining table and wet bar, making them perfect for families or groups traveling together. Select guest suites also include in-room fireplaces.

Additionally, the resort will feature an indoor heated pool with sliding doors to a patio offering views of the surrounding mountain landscape during the warmer months.

In addition to the License to Chill Bar, guests can dine at the resort’s array of other restaurants including LandShark Bar & Grill, a relaxed indoor/outdoor restaurant inspired by the traditional beach bars of the Atlantic Coast; Joe Merchant’s, a one-stop shop for coffee, breakfast and afternoon snacks; Come Monday Café, a breakfast restaurant with a chef-driven menu; and JWB Prime Steak and Seafood, an acclaimed, laid-back luxury restaurant serving fine cuts of meat and fresh seafood, perfect for special occasions.

From design elements that adapt the property for all four seasons to thoughtful details reflecting the destination, the refreshed resort will be firmly rooted in the Margaritaville state of mind, while giving guests an entirely fresh and elevated experience that is quintessentially Lake Tahoe.

Additional elements throughout the property further tie in the destination and infuse elements of Lake Tahoe into the resort experience, from the on-site restaurants to the guestrooms, all featuring natural tones with pops of emerald green. Select artwork in the lobby and suites will incorporate the locale, blending seamlessly with Margaritaville’s iconic, tropical décor. In LandShark Bar & Grill, traditional brand elements are used alongside destination-inspired signage and décor such as crossed skis instead of a surfboard, Margaritaville postcard signs featuring local mountain and lake scenes, and directional signs pointing out local Tahoe places of interest.

Following the success of Margaritaville Resort Palm Springs and Compass Hotel by Margaritaville Medford (Oregon), and on the heels of the forthcoming Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter opening in August 2023, Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe will be the brand’s fourth West Coast lodging property.
