Red Flag Warning for Lake Tahoe Saturday and Sunday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Services (NWS) in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for Lake Tahoe, Truckee, and the rest of the Eastern Sierra, northeast California including Surprise Valley, and western Nevada.

The warning is in effect from 5 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday for thunderstorms and strong outflow winds up to 50 mph. Scattered thunderstorms are expected with little to no rainfall.

Whenever there is a Red Flag Warning in South Lake Tahoe, no outdoor fires of any kind are allowed due to the fire danger. This includes BBQs.

Lightning can create new fire starts and may combine with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
