COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations on the rise again in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Since Wednesday, July there have been 81 new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County:

Pollock Pines, Camino, Kyburz - 545 cases - +5
El Dorado Hills - 2339 cases - +16

Diamond Springs, El Dorado - 489 cases - +7
North County - 516 cases - +6
Greater Placerville - 1914 cases +24
Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue - 1854 cases - +14
South County - 134 cases - +1
Lake Tahoe region - 2740 cases - +13

The active case count is 360.

To date, 118 El Dorado County residents have died from COVID-19 and 10614 residents have tested positive.

There are 13 hospitalized (+5) with 3 (+0) in the ICU. Of these patients, 11 are hospitalized at Marshall, 2 at Barton. Of the ICU patients, two are in Barton, 1 is in Marshall in Placerville. There are currently three available ICU beds in the county, all at Barton Health in South Lake Tahoe.

Cumulative fully vaccinated: 89,853 (46.5%) (+.6%)

"As expected with a 95 percent-effective vaccine, some breakthrough cases occur," said El Dorado County Public Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams last week. "However, those vaccinated people who get infected do not typically get very ill. I think the underlying messages are that COVID is still out there, that vulnerable people are still getting infected, some hospitalized, and a few die, and that vaccination is the best way to protect oneself."
