SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many of us who live around Lake Tahoe tolerate heat when it hits the 80s, but anything higher becomes too hot. Just how hot was in over the past seven days?
Between July 7 and July 12, 2021, South Lake Tahoe set or tied records for the highest temperatures on the 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th, with a four-day stretch (July 9-12) in there of consecutive days topping 90 degrees. So far, its not the hottest summer on record but then again, its only July 14!
July 7 - tied the high for that date at 88

In 1988 there three periods of consecutive days when the highs reached 90 or above. Twice with six days of consecutive 90+ days and once with five days.
We were jinxed by former NBA great Charles Barkley when he said prior to last week's American Century Championship that "no matter where I am coming from, Tahoe is always cooler." He said he always appreciates coming to Tahoe to cool down. He does live in Scottsdale, Ariz., but travels for work. While he was at Lake Tahoe, Scottsdale highs were 109-111.
There is another ridge building that will bring warm temperatures to South Lake Tahoe next week, but that ridge also brings an increased chance of thunderstorms and rain, and most likely under-90 degree days.
June was the hottest on record in Carson City, as were the periods of April-June and May-June. South Lake Tahoe isn't tracked on those statewide records. Reno's June was warmest to date since records started in 1895.
